Sound familiar?

You've read the books. You've watched the videos. You're still guessing.

You enter trades because the chart "looks right", but you can't articulate the exact rule you followed.
You hold losers too long because cutting them feels like admitting you were wrong.
You skip the boring weeks where nothing sets up. Then you chase the first trade after, and blow up.
Your journal says you're losing. Your bank says you're losing. Your friends think you've figured it out.

The framework

Four sequential filters. Every setup runs all four.

If a setup fails any filter, we skip. No exceptions. The discipline is the edge.

1
Context checkDaily trend direction must match the weekly close. If they conflict, we wait.
2
Setup patternOne of three named patterns must be present on the 4-hour chart. If none, we skip.
3
Risk gateStop-loss distance must allow a 1:3 reward ratio at minimum. Below that, position size halves or the trade is skipped.
4
Conviction checkWould you take this trade if you couldn't see the entry until Monday? If no, it's a chase. Skip.

Worked example

Here's the framework rejecting a winning trade.

Friday 14 Feb 2025. Persimmon plc (PSN.L). Setup looked good. Framework said skip. The stock ran 4% higher next session.

Persimmon plc · PSN.L
Fri 14 Feb 2025
4-hour chart
1
Context checkDaily uptrend confirmed, weekly close above 200-day SMA.
Pass
2
Setup patternBullish flag on 4-hour, breakout candle closed +1.8%.
Pass
3
Risk gateStop £14.20 (recent low), target £15.80. RR 1:2.5, below the 1:3 minimum.
Fail
4
Conviction checkNot assessed. Trade was already skipped at stage 3.
Skip
Trade skipped. PSN closed +4.1% by Tuesday. The framework rejected a profitable trade because the risk-reward fell short of the rule. That's the entire point. The members who took it (those still building intuition outside the rules) got lucky once. The framework keeps you alive through the times you don't.

Six years on a London prop firm equities desk. 2018 to 2024. Walked away after building the 4-step filter that kept my win rate above 60% and stopped me chasing the trades that blew up my colleagues.

Sterling Edge teaches the exact filter, in the exact order I still use it. Nothing has been simplified for marketing. The framework is the framework.

I trade my own capital alongside every cohort. Every Sunday I publish my watchlist for the week, with the 4-step analysis written out. Members see what I see, in the order I decide.

Members

What three members said.

One who recovered losses. One who started from scratch. One who took the refund.

“I'd lost £4,200 chasing setups before I found this. The conviction-check rule alone has stopped me entering 9 trades I would've blown up on. Two months in, I'm net positive for the first time.”
MR
Marcus R., Bristol
Cohort 4 · Recovered position
“I'd never placed a real trade before Sterling Edge. Three months after the cohort I'm managing an £8k portfolio with three consecutive net-positive months. The framework removes the guesswork that beginners can't filter out.”
PS
Priya S., Reading
Cohort 3 · First-time trader
“Took the refund at day 45. The framework wasn't for me. I want intraday and this is swing. Got my money back in 3 working days, no questions. That alone is why I sent a friend doing swing trading.”
DA
Daniel A., Manchester

Common questions

Six things people ask before joining.

Is this regulated financial advice?
No. Sterling Edge is education only. We don't recommend specific trades, manage capital, or operate as an FCA-regulated adviser. The framework is taught for self-application. Members make their own decisions and accept their own risk.
What if I'm working full-time?
The framework runs on end-of-day data. You can execute setups in under 30 minutes per evening. The Sunday review and live session is 90 minutes total. The program is designed around a full-time job. It's actively unsuited to day-trading.
What if I lose money following the framework?
You can. Position-sizing rules cap individual losses at 1% of capital per trade, but the framework controls how much and why, not whether. Trading is a probabilistic game. If you can't accept that, this isn't for you and the 60-day refund applies.
What markets does the framework cover?
UK equities (FTSE 250 focus), indices (FTSE 100, S&P 500), and selected major FX pairs. Not crypto. Not commodity futures. Not options. The framework is designed for liquid, range-bound, sentiment-driven instruments.
How much trading capital do I need?
£500 is the recommended floor. Below that, the position-sizing rules become impractical (sub-£5 per-trade risk doesn't justify the time). You can complete the program without trading live, but the framework is intended for capital application.
Will I be in a Discord with a thousand random people?
No. Each cohort caps at 60 vetted members. Onboarding is by application. The Discord is moderated by the Sterling Edge team and is the only channel where James responds directly.
